This could be a very dormant ability that wouldn't ever become activated. Eventually, after she has mastered this ability, she'll be able to deactivate abilities, too. A personal defense mechanism her body has is it deactivates her 'active' status when she is being tested, so she won't read as a meta human. With deactivation, when it comes to people who have more than one ability, she would have to switch off each one individually. She can leave them permanently off, or switch them back on if she chooses. NOTE: When her ability is active, it can cause people who don't have a firm hold on their powers to suddenly use them. This will only happen until she realizes what she is capable of doing. STATUS: Hero PAST/BIO: Second generation biological anthropologist after her mother, Helen. Helen Denton was a celebrated researcher as an associate of the Leakeys. After Lucina was born, Helen was a guest lecturer around the world. One of the good family friends was Jane Goodall, who would come over semi-regularly to brunch. Lucina went on many expeditions in her undergrad years, thanks to her mother's connections. After she attained her doctorate degree, she took on a position at Georgetown, a heavily-based research school where she studied more than taught. Things were fantastic for her at first. She had a good job, a guy, and got pregnant. Then five years ago America went to pot. An explosion caused by a human man, a man who possessed the power himself, happened. People panicked. A new president took power. He vowed to help the people as he had helped the residents of NYC. Protective measures were made. Seizings happened. Suddenly people were talking about people who possessed different powers and what levels these could and couldn't be. A night before the screenings began in DC, Robert, her younger brother, came out to her. He possessed the ability to summon bursts of cosmic energy. He was a fucking star--an impossibility to her school of thought. But he was her brother. He ran and he got apprehended in the process. A week later, Lucina lost the baby. Two years later she heard about a run on one of the holding facilities and she got an unsigned note a day later--I'm still here. Don't come looking. When she faced testing, she feared it would show something about her but it never did. She was listed as a "person of interest" as she had a sibling who had an ability. She wasn't allowed to have children. A year after her brother vanished, while she was in a used bookstore, she found a book that explained everything she was seeing now. Chandra Suresh's book, Activating Evolution. It was considered a dangerous book and had been banned to be sold anywhere. She followed his theories and conclusions and drew many of her own. She looked at available statistics, reports, and realized that more and more people were getting 'activated'. This was the new world and there was nothing anybody could do about it. Dr. Denton's theory: On the verge of 22 December 2012, the day where the two Earth poles would shift, people would develop abilities. But after this shift, the number of people becoming active would soar to an even higher rate. Something big was coming. Those with abilities would survive, while those who didn't would likely perish. CHARACTER POST: Lucina checked the location of the file again. As it was a few minutes before, it was still zipped up in the inner pocket of her purse. That's where it stayed since she created it. She carried the bag with her everywhere, never let it out of her sight. The contents of the file, if it got into the wrong hands, everything she had worked for would cease to be. It was more than in the name of science: this was in the name of the race to come. Not just that, but the continuation of the human race. The current race relied on its predecessor. Races coming to an end was a natural progression. But Homo Sapiens Sapiens was tougher than the last, much more arrogant about themselve, probably, too. They liked themselves and anything different was wrong, even if it was right in the biological manner. She had to get this information out, but to the right source. There were opposing theories spread about everywhere. And she wanted it to be taken seriously. But she didn't know who she could trust. In fact, she was convinced that there was nobody she could trust. She never let anybody in, not since David. When he heard that her brother was apprehended, he left her anyway. It seemed that he had something against people who were different. He was just as scared as the rest of them were. And it could be scary for both people who were different and people who weren't. It was war between them. Those people who were 'normal' reacted to the threat the best they could--making them appear more like scared animals than anything else. Any means necessary for a win. But evolution would be the ultimate victor. That would be a harsh reality for those who weren't so accepting of their fates, but it was what had to be.
